Dear Valued Friends and Supporters,
Your Zoo is entering a truly exciting time in its evolution. We are on the cusp of making truly transitional improvements to the Zoo. With the help of the City of Watertown, we are starting design on the first phase of the Zoo’s master plan. They have also committed to supporting a portion of the construction costs.
This first phase is intended to include a wonderful new animal habitat for bison, a new food service that will serve both the Zoo and Thompson Park, AND for those with an adventurous spirit, an adventure park to include a zipline, treetops ropes course, climbing wall, and a nature play area. Design is expected to take up to one year along with fund-raising. It is hoped we will be able to start the construction process sometime in 2023!
However, we still need to be sure the Zoo continues to meet its financial obligations as these great improvements are completed. This is where you come in! As a non-profit organization that operates the Zoo for the City of Watertown, we need to raise approximately 80% of our operating costs. While we receive support from our government partners- the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, and the State of New York, that is not enough to provide the quality of animal care, education, and guest experience we intend. We must raise the balance through operations such as admissions, memberships, and donations.
Donations such as yours are a critical component of meeting our operational needs. Please consider making a tax-deductible gift to the Zoo that will help ensure we can build the future we envision for the Zoo and the community!
Thank you in advance for your generous support! And please, visit the Zoo this summer and enjoy New York’s nature at its finest.
Zoo New York, by example and action, provides knowledge and motivation to conserve nature in New York State through science based natural and cultural experiences.
