Welcome to the Butterfly House

The Butterfly House at Zoo New York opens each spring to provide visitors the opportunity for an up-close and educational experience with hundreds of butterflies. Our House acts as home and hatchery for many native butterfly species, allowing them to carry out their lifecycle in a protected environment for all to enjoy. 

Before the Butterfly House opens for the season, the net will go up and the plants, gardens, and habitat will be restored by an incredible team of staff and volunteers.  Throughout the spring and summer, we are home to over 10 different butterfly species and numerous host and nectar plants.  Be sure to check out all the greenery in the house for pollinators, caterpillars, and even eggs!

During your visit ask our staff all about what we are doing with MonarchWatch, pollinators, and more.  Butterfly House will close in late August or early September.
